@media 2007 - Day 1

I am a bit of lucky that my MacBook picked up a wifi connection in my hotel room! This saves me 15£ extra.

The first day of @media07 is finished at it was very good.

These are the highlights of today:

Beyond Ajax by Jesse James Garret

He looks at the latest innovations in Web development and considers the broader implications for the skillsets Web teams will need.

Some important questions like “What is the web good for (or at)” or “What is the highest compliment you want to reach” have been explained.

Another interesting thing is Products are people too, another look at projects. People get emotional connected with products for example. More coming soon about this.

Interface design juggling by Dan Cederholm

This was for me the most interesting. He has been talking about colors, typography, discovering type, favicons and microformats. A full article about this coming soon.

This was about solving the browser problem once and for all.

It’s not about tips and tricks how to solve the problems. It’s about working together creating better browsers, operating systems and tools, extending browsers, fractioning specifications and the pathways to succces.

She is working with a group on HTML5.

HTML5 is a rewrite, not an upgrade because if html had been properly specified and implemented in the first place, it was an update.

High performance web pages by Nate Koechley

This was about fast web pages, increasing the speed of your site by 25-50%.
I will write a full review later, but here are some keynotes.
Keep cookies low, emtpy vs full cache, paralles downloads, http requests, …
